I feel like I never blog anymore.  I think about it all the time, but guess I just feel like there's not really anything blog-worthy going on around here.  Our lives consist of work, school, errands, laundry, dinner, dishes, homework, repeat.  I'm sure y'all don't want to hear about our exciting adventures of cleaning up after the new puppy, or the annoying knot on the bottom of my heel that won't go away.

But I've been reading back through all of my Tiny Talk Tuesday posts and cracking up at the little comedians we have in our family.  And so, for the benefit of all my many both of my readers, let's have a little Tiny Talk, shall we?

For some reason, one of my kids' favorite things to do is to lay all the seats in the van down flat - like fold them into the floor.  We just got a (not) new van last week, and as we drove down the road one day Jacob said, "Mom, I know how to flatten the van."  I said, "You do?"  He said, "Yes.  See that semi truck right there?  Just pull in front of it and stop!"

You know how much I love it when the Canada geese come to visit our hometown every winter.  My whole family knows to be on the lookout for them.  One morning Jacob and I were getting in the car to go to school, and there was a flock of geese flying right over our house.

Me: "Wow, look how low those geese are flying!"


Jacob: "Why are they so low? They probably had a heavy breakfast."

Back before Christmas, we made our first-ever visit to Santa Land.  Yes, our kids our 12 and 9.  We wanted to be sure they were old enough to truly appreciate it. :)


Jacob, looking at the very looong line of people:  "Wow, what are all those people doing?"

Me:  "I think that’s the line to see Santa."

Jacob:  "Maybe we should just wait until Santa Land closes and catch Santa in the taxi on the way out!"

Tiny Talk Tuesday

The other night at dinner, we were talking about different people's ages....Jacob was asking me how old Grandma is, how old Grammy is, and so on.

Then he asked how old my friend Ashley is. I said, "I'm not sure, I think she's about 51."

His reply?  "Why is it that she's older than you, BUT YOU'RE BIGGER THAN HER?"

Hahaha - exactly! Why DOES it work that way? :)

We were in the car the other day and out of the blue Jacob asks, "Mom is it easier to be mean to someone than to poke the eye of a needle into a donkey?"

Hahahaha - crazy mixed up metaphors, Batman!  (I know, it sounds weird, but I don't like saying "holy" something when talking about things other than God.)

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Jacob has really been loving all kinds of "tricks" lately....magic tricks, plays on words, optical illusions, riddles. Yesterday he asked me for a pen, and wrote this on a piece of paper:

PEAR

The following conversation ensued.

Jacob: "What's this word?"
Me: "Pear."
Jacob: "I can make that pear disappear."
Me: "Really? Show me."

He takes back the paper, writes something else, then shows me the paper with his PEAR made into DISAPPEAR.

J: "See? Disappear! Get it?"
Me: Appropriate laughter. :) "Aahhh, that was sneaky!"
J: "Dis.Ap.Pear. That's one word. Three syllables, one word."
Me: "Yep."
J: "Good thing I didn't write Kiss a Pear. That would be two words. (yes, he said two) Disappear is one word, but kiss a pear is two words."
The Mister: "Well, if disappear is one word, and kiss a pear is two words, what about Kickapoo? What's that?"

J: "Now that's just nasty!"

Bahahahaha!!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

The Mister's mom was in town last week, so we all went out to eat at Kloe's favorite cheese-stick place. On the way home, Jacob was explaining to Grandma (who is a teacher), "I'm not very good at English." Just hearing him say that made me a little sad....until he went on to say,

"I'm not good at English because I don't speak English. I speak Texan." :)

This morning Jacob walked in and saw me standing on the bathroom scale. He looked at the number (which thankfully wasn't an "E" this time) and said,

"Oh man! You weigh more than A HUNDRED POUNDS?!" Bahaha!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Last week Jacob and I were in the drive thru at the bank. When the teller sent the little tube-thingy back, he said, "Thank you, Mrs. Lastname." (Cute, huh? I stole that from my friend Jenni.)

Jacob: "Why did he call you Mrs. Lastname?"

Me: "Because he's young and I'm old." ;)

Jacob: "You're not old, Mom. You still look like a teenager!"

Me: (smiling sweetly) "Aww, thanks, Jacob."

Jacob: "A wrinkly teenager."

Last night we were at Wal*Mart buying a few things. We were on the aisle with the air fresheners and Jacob said, "Oh, look, there's one of those automatic sprayer things. We have to get one of those! It just smells the stink, and then it sprays - it's so cool!" :)

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Inspired by our friends the Mosses {Jen, I'm sorry I copy you all the time. I have no creativity of my own, and you have all the best ideas! Your blog is my personal Family Fun Magazine :) }, we've decided to do the 12 days of Christmas this year for a family we know from school (details in another post...hopefully!). The kids and I sat down to brainstorm ideas for 12 different gifts we could take to the family. One idea that came up was those little ornament-shaped bottles of Coke...have you seen them?


One of the children from this family is in the same grade as Jacob, so I asked him, "Do you know if (boy's name) is allowed to drink Coke?"

He said, "Ummm, I don't know....I think he might a Mediterranean."

Do you see how loose this tooth is?



So loose that it would literally....literally....flap in the breeze when Jacob would breathe hard. I'm not kidding - I don't think I've ever seen a tooth that loose before. On Thursday I said to him, "Just pull that thing out and be done with it." (Remember, I've made a promise to my kids {AND myself} - that I will never pull their teeth.)

Jacob: "No way!"

Me: "Come on, just pull it."

Jacob: "No, I'm not gonna pull it, but watch - I can twist it all the way around."

Me: "Well, just twist it around and give it a little yank, and it'll pop right out!"

Jacob, slowly shaking his head: "Nope, I'm not that kind of man."

Wait. What do you mean it's Thursday? Oh my stars. My head has been in such a whirl - what with The Mister being out of town all week, and my dad coming to visit (this weekend!), and trying to get ready to go on the cruise (next Wednesday!), and God trying to boss encourage me to go to Africa - I barely know what day it is!

And anyway, Tiny Talk Thursday just doesn't sound right.

So here's Tiny-Talk-Whatever-Day-It-Is, and Jen, this one's for you. :)

One day last week (of course, I can't remember which day), the kids and I ran home really quick after school, just long enough to change clothes and run out the door to somewhere we had to be. I yelled down the hallway to Jacob, "We're about to leave - are you ready to go?"

He yelled back, "Yeah, I just need to go to the restroom first....AND I WORE UNDERWEAR TODAY!"

Ummm......excuse me?

Tiny Talk Tuesday - An Ode to Perseverence

Last night after dinner, Jacob asked me, "Mom, can I have this pack of Smarties?"

I thought he'd had enough sugar for the day, so I said No.

"Just a few?"

No.

"Just three?"

No.

"Two?"

No.

"One?"

No.

"A half of one?"

No.

"Just a crumb?"

NO!

"Can I just lick one?"

Jacob: "Mom, I saw a commercial on TV, and the man said if you love your kids you will buy them an i*Phone, an X-box, and three sixties."

Last summer, Kloe and Jacob set up a little stand in our front yard to sell lemonade. And rocks. Not ON the rocks.....just AND rocks. You know, 'cause they so naturally go together. They called my cousin and asked him if he would like to come over and buy some lemonade from their stand. When my cousin arrived, Jacob - slick little salesman that he is - was pointing out the finer points of the rocks he had for sale, and my cousin was picking out the ones he wanted to buy.

Jacob asked him, "Do you want to buy some rocks? Or do you just want to give me your money?"

Last fall Jacob played football for the first time. When we signed up for football, they were doing physicals at the same time as the sign-ups. This year, he has decided that he wants to play soccer instead (he's played before). So last week when we went to sign up for soccer, I just handed the lady our form and a check, and then we left. As we were leaving, Jacob asked, "That's it? They're not even going to hammer my knees or anything?" :)

Wow, this week went by fast! Can't believe it's already Tuesday again.

In the car the other day (seems like a lot of our funny words happen in the car).....

Kloe: "Mom, what's nitrogen?"
Me: "It's a gas, like oxygen."
Jacob: (giggling) "A gas?"
Kloe: "You breathe oxygen."
Jacob: "No wonder I stink!"

Sunday night we were eating dinner and it was just barely starting to rain. Jacob hates thunderstorms. There was a flash of lightning and Jacob looked at the Mister, startled.

Jacob: "What was that?"
Mister: "Lightning."
Jacob: "Outside?"

I was going through a stack of papers a few days ago and came across a scrap of stationery from the hotel we stayed at in San Antonio. On it I had scribbled some quotes from my kids that kept us laughing during our trip. So glad I uncovered that scrap of paper! :)

More Tiny Talk....

Jacob really wants to grow his hair out in the new longer style boys are wearing these days. But really, it's getting too long and looks scraggly. Besides, part of the school dress code is that boys' hair can't be over their ears or collar.

So this morning I mentioned to him that we need to go get his hair cut after school today.

Jacob: Ok, but only if we go gets donuts afterward.

Me: I don't think you get to give me an ultimatum.

Jacob: Welp, I'm only getting my hair cut if we go get donuts after.

Kloe: She said, you don't get to give her an ul-tomato!

Jacob gets highly offended if I try to help him with his bath. After all, he is seven years old now. Ahem. So last night I was trying to help without seeming like I was helping. I would walk into the bathroom every so often and say, "Ok, five more minutes of play, and then you need to wash. Ok, now you need to wash your hair," etc.

When he started to wash his hair I said, "Be sure you get the back, the sides, and the front," touching each part of his head as I said it. You know, just to be sure.

I knew I was dismissed when he answered:

Kloe: Prin-ci-PAL.
Jacob: That's what I said, Prin-ci-BAL.
