So I lost my camera last week.
I took it to school for a PTA meeting, and in the rush of moving from one meeting to the next, somehow it got left behind. I've checked in the office, the library (where the first meeting was), the cafeteria (where the second meeting was), asked the principal, her administrative assistant, the janitor, some other PTA moms....it's nowhere. *sigh*
So, I guess it's time for a new camera, huh? :) I'm not too sad about that, because my camera was old. (are you seeing a trend here? *smile*) The thing I'm most sad about is losing the pictures that were on it. Which I can't remember specifically, but I know they were "keepers". I had been trying to take pictures at the meeting and the internal memory on my camera was full, so I had to delete some to make more room. I remember going through the photos thinking "delete that one, delete that one, no - keep that one...." So, yeah, I know I'm going to be sad when I remember what they were.
But - (pause for dramatic effect) - THANK YOU JESUS that my SD card was NOT in the camera! Friends, can I just tell you that is nothing but the pure grace of God? A while back I had been getting frustrated at myself for always leaving the SD card in my laptop after downloading pictures to my computer. I would go to take pictures and the internal memory on my camera would be full (e.g., - the PTA meeting) and I would miss a photo due to having to take the time to delete from the internal memory. SO, I made a personal policy to ALWAYS put the SD card back in the camera anytime I turned off the computer - whether I was done downloading or not.
When I realized my camera was missing last week, I KNEW that I had NOT put the SD card back in it like I was supposed to....but I couldn't find the card either. I was just sick. There were over 600 pictures on that card - including all the pictures from our Spring Break trip to San Antonio. I was a wreck, walking around the house searching high and low, praying, "Please, God, please...."
And guess what? I found the card. THANK YOU Jesus! It was stuck to the bottom of a sticky note on my kitchen table (haha) so that when I had picked up the note to look under it the first 2 or 10 times, the card stuck to the bottom and I didn't see it.
And now? I'm not so concerned about the camera anymore. I'm still sad about the photos that were on it, but the internal memory holds - what, about 20 pictures? Hmmm, 600 vs. 20. Amazing what a little perspective will do for ya.
So I guess I'll be posting without photos for a while until I can decide on a new camera. Have you done that lately? Tried to pick a new camera? It's HARD. There are like 10 million choices. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I've got to decide soon, though. We postponed family night last week because I didn't want to do it without pictures. Is that bad? Or just obsessive?
Funny thing is, we were planning a Cinco de Mayo family night. Guess now it'll have to be Doce or Trece de Mayo. :)

We got a new camera about a year and a half ago. At the time I really wanted an SLR camera (something like Jen uses). One of my girlfriends that is a professional photographer talked me in to getting a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS (just google it). Actually I'm not sure they make this specific one anymore, but there is one similar probably with a few upgrades. It's a digital camera, but it has a lot of fun features. You can take the time to learn how to mess with the settings or you can just put it on auto and go. You can't change the lenses, but it has a great zoom. I love it. The other cameras I was looking at would have been too much for me. I just don't take that much time to learn about it. The only down side is that it's a little big. We carried it around Disneyland last January and got some great shots, but it was bulky. I took it to sea world spring break and loved the pics we got there, but am not planning on taking it in May when we go and do all the water stuff. The best part about it is it was way cheaper than the SLRs I was looking at, and I'm just as happy with it.
ReplyDeleteBubba saved up and got a smaller one last summer. His is a Nikon Cool LPIX. It's a great camera, too, with a few fun features. It takes GREAT pictures, and we'll probably use it in San Antonio in May and then again when Honey and I go to Cancun. It's way more compact than the Canon.
Happy shopping!
I know this scenario all too well. Glad you found the memory card stuck to the sticky note (funny!) and that now you have a reason to get a new digital camera. I don't know how old your lost one was, but they've made great improvements in the past few years and have come down in price a lot.
ReplyDeleteTo start, I would take a look at a Canon Powershot with image stabilization. Best point and shoot, in my opinion. It has a quick view too after you take a picture (it comes up instantly on the screen...some have a delay which is annoying). Just my two cents...
